Accessibility
TypingSpark aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
What is supported
- Keyboard only. Every page and tool can be used without a mouse. In a test, press Esc to restart; Tab always moves focus normally and is never captured.
- Screen readers. The typing area is labelled, results are announced when a test ends and every chart has a table view.
- Reduced motion. If your device asks for reduced motion, animations are removed and games start in calm mode.
- Text size and width. Test text can be shown in four sizes and three line widths, and the page works when zoomed to 200%.
- Colour. Mistakes are shown with an underline as well as colour. Light and dark themes are available, with contrast checked in both.
- Pace. Lessons and practice can be done without a timer, and stop-on-error mode lets you go at your own speed.
Limits we know about
- Speed tests measure typing on a physical keyboard. Results from on-screen keyboards, switch access, eye tracking or speech input are not comparable with physical keyboard results, though all tools can still be used for practice.
- Fast-moving games are hard to follow with a screen reader. Calm mode and the accuracy challenge work better.
- Ads are provided by Google and their accessibility is outside our control. They are never placed inside the typing area.
