TypingSpark

Online typing classes

Add your students, give each one a sign-in code, set assignments and see every result in one table. Free, with no student emails or passwords.

Checking your account…

How it works

  1. Sign in with a free TypingSpark account (a username and password; no email needed). This is your teacher account.
  2. Create a class and add your students' names, one per line. First names or nicknames are enough.
  3. Each student gets a personal sign-in code such as K7QPM-3XW9R. Print the code cards or copy them into your learning platform. Codes are shown only when they are created.
  4. Add assignments: the kind of text or your own passage, the time limit, the pass marks and an optional due date.
  5. Students go to typingspark.com/class, type their code and take the assignments. Results appear in your class table straight away.

Privacy by design

Students never create accounts and never give an email address. TypingSpark stores only the names you type, the assignments and each attempt's speed, accuracy, length and time. Sign-in codes are stored as one-way hashes. Class pages show no ads at all. Deleting a class deletes everything in it immediately, deleting your account deletes all your classes, and classes that are not used for 13 months are deleted automatically. More detail is in the privacy policy.

What you see

The class table has a row per student and a column per assignment. Each cell shows the student's best attempt (passed attempts first, then the fastest), whether it met your pass marks and how many attempts they made. Download every attempt as a CSV file for your gradebook, or print the table. If a student loses their code, give them a new one; the old code stops working at once.

Classes or assignment links?

Online classes keep everything in one place and need a teacher account. If you prefer nothing stored at all, use assignment links instead: students receive a signed result code that you paste into the class report. Both are free.

Questions

Is it free?

Yes. There is no paid plan. Each teacher can have up to 30 classes with up to 60 students and 100 assignments each.

What do students need?

A computer or Chromebook with a keyboard and the sign-in code from you. No account, email or password.

Can students see each other's results?

No. A student signed in with their code sees only their own assignments and their own results.

Can a student cheat?

Results are measured in the student's browser, as with every online typing test, and a code does not prove who is typing. TypingSpark rejects impossible numbers and decides pass or fail itself, but for formal assessment, supervise the session.
