Data entry typing test
Copy fictional records into realistic forms, moving between fields with Tab. Scored on speed, accuracy and correct fields.
What this test measures
Real data entry is not copying a paragraph. You read a record, move between fields, type names, codes, dates and amounts exactly, and keep going. This simulator gives you a source record on one side and a form on the other. You are scored on keystroke speed, on character accuracy in each field, and on the share of fields that are exactly right, which is what matters to the person who uses the data next.
Scenarios
- Customer records: names, account numbers, addresses, postal codes, phone numbers and emails, in Canadian, US, UK or European formats.
- Invoice line items: item codes, descriptions, quantities and prices in a spreadsheet-style grid.
- Appointment bookings: clients, dates, times, services and reference numbers.
- Support ticket: log a ticket and type an approved reply.
- Email transcription: copy a business email with its line breaks.
All data is fictional and generated on your device. Never practise with real customer or patient records.
Tips for faster, cleaner data entry
- Use Tab to move forward and Shift + Tab to go back. Reaching for the mouse costs seconds per record.
- Read a whole field before you type it, especially numbers.
- Check codes and postal codes in small groups of three or four characters.
- Use the 10-key test to speed up long numbers.
Questions
How is data entry speed measured?
TypingSpark reports keystrokes per hour and an equivalent words per minute, together with character accuracy and the percentage of fields typed exactly right.
Is this an official data entry certification?
No. It is practice. Employers run their own tests; this one helps you prepare for them.
