Story typing test
Short, original stories to type. A friendlier way to practise than lists of words.

Practice that does not feel like practice
Typing a story is more engaging than typing random words, so it is easier to keep going for a few more minutes. Stories also mix capitals, punctuation and longer sentences, which builds the same skills you need for essays and emails. They work well for children and for anyone who finds word lists boring.
About the stories
Every story was written for TypingSpark and is about fifty words long. Timed tests keep adding stories, so a five-minute test is a little collection. For younger typists, the typing test for kids uses shorter words.
How the score is calculated
A "word" is five characters, spaces and punctuation included. Net WPM is your gross speed minus one word per minute for every error you leave uncorrected, and accuracy is the share of all your keystrokes that were right, including mistakes you fixed. The timer starts on your first key. Read the full formulas.
