What a unit is
A unit is a short sequence of typing activities with a title, a time limit and pass marks for each one. Six units are ready to use, from home row foundations for younger students to business writing and numbers for older students and adult education. Every activity can be practised on this page first.
Import and share your own
Download any unit, change it, and import it again, or write one from scratch. Units are plain files you can share with colleagues: JSON, or a simple text format you can write in any editor:
# Spelling week 4 level: Grade 5 ## Warm-up minutes: 1, wpm: 12, accuracy: 90 friend because people beautiful ## Sentences minutes: 2, wpm: 15, accuracy: 92 My friend has a beautiful garden because people help her.
Each activity can also use generated text instead of your own: add text: passage, text: words, text: punctuation or text: numbers to its settings line.
From unit to assignments
With one click, a unit becomes a list of signed assignment links that need no student accounts, or a set of assignments in one of your online classes, with due dates spread out if you like. The unit is checked again on our server, and the class must have room for every activity, so nothing is added halfway.
Student privacy
Units contain activities only, never student names or results. Imported units stay in your browser. When you add a unit to a class, only the activities are sent, and the class keeps its usual protections: personal sign-in codes, no student accounts or emails, and results only the teacher can see.
Questions
Which file formats can I import?
A .json file downloaded from this page or a .txt file in the simple text format, up to 64 KB and 20 activities.
How long can an activity text be?
Up to 1,500 characters, the same as a custom assignment.
Do I need an account?
Not to use units or make assignment links. Adding a unit to an online class needs your free teacher account, because the class belongs to it.
