Why shortcuts matter
Reaching for the mouse to copy, undo or switch windows takes a second or two each time. Across a working day those seconds add up to many minutes. Shortcuts also keep your hands on the home row, which helps your typing rhythm. This practice covers editing, text formatting, navigation and window management.
Shortcuts your browser keeps for itself
Some shortcuts, such as closing a tab or opening a new window, are reserved by the browser and cannot be safely practised on a web page. They are listed under "Know but do not press here" so you can learn them without closing this page by accident.
