Start here

This test uses short everyday words of six letters or fewer. Start with 30 seconds; when it feels comfortable, try one minute. Do not worry about the number on your first attempt. What matters is the trend over the next weeks, which you can see on your progress page.

If you look at the keyboard while you type, that is normal at the start. The typing lessons teach where every key is, one row at a time, so you can stop looking down.

What the numbers mean

Net WPM is your speed after mistakes you left behind. Accuracy is the share of keys you pressed correctly. For a beginner, accuracy is the number to watch: aim for 95% or better before trying to go faster. Speed grows on its own once your fingers know the way.

Typical beginner speeds

People who type with two or three fingers usually reach 15 to 30 WPM. After a few weeks of touch-typing practice many learners pass 30, and the adult average is around 40. There is no wrong starting point.

Questions

How do I make the words harder later?

Open Settings and change Difficulty to Standard or Advanced. Your choice is remembered.

Should I learn touch typing first?

You can test at any time. If you look at your hands while typing, the lessons will help more than repeated tests.
