For parents and teachers
The test uses a list of short everyday words chosen to be suitable for school. Results are saved only in the browser on this device; nothing is sent to TypingSpark unless someone signs in to an account. This page shows only non-personalised ads, and ads never appear inside the typing area or while a test is running.
Teachers can set the same test for a whole class with an assignment link or a free online class, and see every student's result in one place.
Good habits from the start
- Sit up straight with both feet on the floor and the screen at eye level.
- Rest the fingers on the home row: the bumps on F and J are where the pointer fingers go.
- Try not to look down at the keys. It feels slow at first and fast later.
- Short practice every day beats one long session a week.
What is a good speed for a child?
It depends a lot on age and practice. Many children aged 8 to 10 type 10 to 20 words per minute; by 12 to 14, 25 to 35 is common with regular practice. Accuracy of 90% or better is a great goal for young typists. Celebrate improvement, not comparison.
