Pace Race

Race a short passage against pacers moving at fixed speeds, and against your own best result.

How it works

Pacers are not other people: each one moves at exactly the speed shown next to it, so the race is a fair, repeatable target. Your best previous race on this device appears as a pacer too. Finish ahead of a pacer and you are typing faster than its speed.

Choosing your race

Each race uses one original passage of about sixty words, with capitals and punctuation. Pacers run at 30, 45, 60 and 80 words per minute, which covers beginners to fast typists. Once you finish a race, your best speed becomes a pacer too, so you are always racing your own record.

How to win more races

  • Start steadily. A pacer never slows down, so a fast start followed by mistakes usually loses.
  • Fix mistakes straight away; your speed is calculated like a normal test, so uncorrected errors cost you.
  • Watch the text, not the track. The lanes are there for the end of the race.

Every race is also saved to your progress page like a normal test, so it counts towards your history and weak-key statistics.

Questions

Can I race other people?

Not in this version. Pace Race is offline and private; it uses fixed-speed pacers and your own best.
