Speed Ladder

Each rung is a short sentence with a target speed. Reach it to climb; every rung asks for 5 WPM more.

How to play

The first rung asks for 20 net WPM. Type the sentence shown; when you finish, your speed is compared with the target. Meet it and you climb to the next rung, which asks for 5 WPM more. Miss it and the climb ends. Your score is the highest speed you reached on the ladder.

What it trains

Short, controlled bursts above your comfortable pace, the most efficient way to raise your top speed. Because a sentence with mistakes scores lower, the ladder rewards accurate speed rather than frantic typing.

Tips

  • Read the whole sentence before you press the first key: the timer starts on your first keystroke.
  • Fix mistakes straight away; uncorrected errors lower your net speed.
  • When you fall off, note the rung. Practise at that speed with speed sprints.

Questions

Where does the ladder start?

At 20 WPM, then 25, 30 and so on. Sentences get a little longer as you climb.

Is my score my real typing speed?

It is your burst speed on short sentences. A 1-minute or 5-minute test shows the speed you can keep up.
